Loss of Innocence
Speech
''What else is there to do?'' (page 161). This quote from Simon represents the loss of innocence because in previous chapters the boys have taken step by step into the primitive side. By the rough housing with each other and brutally killing a pig, they take the final step, which is actually killing someone.
Characters
By chapter 9 in Lord of the Flies, all the boys have definitely matured. The boys have changed from young innocent schoolboys to primitive and barbaric boys. They lost their innocence slowly just after killing a pig. Soon they let go of their identity and let savagery take over and kill Simon.
Events
An important event in" A View to a Death" is that the boy's violent and primitive side takes over and kills Simon. Everyone including Ralph and piggy attack Simon in a vicious and barbaric manner. This is the main event in Chapter 9 because Simon's death represents the loss of innocence and corruption in mankind. All their humanity and morals are gone, and are replaced with chaos, greed, power, destruction and evil.
